Frequently Asked Questions

on GeoNetwork TV

What is GeoNetwork OpenSource?
GeoNetwork OpenSource is a geospatial metadata catalog. Its catalog entries describe geospatial datasets and resources, hence «meta»data. It comes equipped with a Map Viewer to show online maps. GeoNetwork can use various protocols to share and gather metadata between catalogs.
What's with the TV?
Believe me, had we been able to get "geonetwork.com" or similar, we would have! At the time of registration, geonetwork.tv was the available domain name easiest to remember. We try to make it even more memorable by using the TV icons throughout this site.
Where can I find more information on GeoNetwork OpenSource?
The best sources of information, other than geonetwork.tv, are the mailing lists. You can search or browse the archives online. For beginners, the manual that is included in the GeoNetwork OpenSource distribution is also a great place to read up. And of course there is the «official» project homepage.
What's your involvement with GeoNetwork?
We have worked since 2007 in several projects involving GeoNetwork OpenSource, the largest of which are the Dutch INSPIRE portal Nationaal Georegister and the implementation of the ebRIM interface for the European Space Agency. In these projects we have always worked under the umbrella of GeoCat, the company owned by GeoNetwork's founder, Jeroen Ticheler.
I need some customization of GeoNetwork. Are you the right guys to hire?
Absolutely! With over a decade experience in Java and J2EE incl. years of GeoNetwork, you could not make a better choice. We have a particularly strong eye for software quality and we contribute actively to the GeoNetwork code base as well as to the mailing lists. Depending on the nature of your request it is likely we would take it up in close cooperation with GeoCat. For any enquiries please use our contact page.
Can my customizations be merged into GeoNetwork?
That depends on whether GeoNetwork's Project Steering Committee agrees your changes are useful. You should create a proposal on GeoNetwork's proposals wiki, and put it up for voting on the Developers' Mailing List. If approved your changes will go into the GeoNetwork trunk codebase and will be included in the next release. This has the great advantage of gaining free community support for your coding. We can assist you in taking all necessary steps, please use our contact page for enquiries.
I love this web site. Can I give you a donation to show my appreciation?
We do not offer that possibility at the moment. If you insist please use our contact page to arrange this.
